On a side note, the shoe tree in Middlegate NV was chopped down the other day. There were literally hundreds of pairs of old shoes caught up in the branches. Middlegate is where the old part of US-50 veers off of the newer part. Both parts go from Middlegate to Austin. I've ridden on the old part back in the day. Nowadays, Middlegate has just a local watering hole for the ranchers to go to. And, I guess, the tourists taking the highway.
